19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from that period of that year.

Victory also signifies he has won 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His defensive approach and regular reactions on court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform assertively, supported by an better service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the last five points to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet defended four early break points in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, he earned the win with a shot at the net, with Moutet unable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
