Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined over 50 million watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB reported this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday memorable contest secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game drew 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12M. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match World Series drew over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete US average was 16.1M. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and the network’s best postseason performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
